Fire damages Durham house, no one hurt
A fire on East Club Boulevard on Sunday morning burned the rear of a one-story home, but left residents unharmed.
Deputy Fire Chief Christopher Iannuzzi said that a call came in to the Durham Fire Department about a fire in back of the home at 914 E. Club Blvd. Firefighters were dispatched at 6:57 a.m.
“Engine 9 arrived on the scene in just over three minutes and reported heavy smoke coming from the rear of the house,” Iannuzzi said. “Fire had burned up the rear of the house to the roof and got into the attic before firefighters arrived.”
The fire’s cause remains under investigation. It may take longer to determine a cause because it started outside, Iannuzzi said.
Firefighters were on-scene for about three and a half hours, Iannuzzi said.
Two adults and one child living in the home were able to escape before firefighters arrived. The American Red Cross was notified, Iannuzzi said.
Twenty-three firefighters responded to the call and none of them were injured.
