Man arrested in BB&T attempted robbery

DURHAM - Durham police arrested Frederick Earl Smith, 45, of Jan Court, Friday and charged him with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon in connection with an attempted robbery at BB&T at 1855 Hillandale Road on Aug. 30. 

Smith also was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to Durham police, a man had entered the bank at about 12:45 p.m. and handed a teller a note demanding money. He implied that he had a weapon, but no weapon was seen.

Two arrested in connection with cocaine bust

DURHAM - Simon Gonzalez, 41, of North Hyde Park Avenue in Durham, was arrested Friday and charged with two counts of maintaining a house used for keeping or selling a controlled substance, possessing drug paraphernalia, and three counts of trafficking cocaine.

In two separate incidents, according to the arrest report, Gonzalez tried to sell cocaine to an undercover Durham Police Department employee. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement initiated an investigation to determine whether Gonzalez is subject to removal from the U.S.

He was still in Durham County Jail Saturday under a $3 million bond. Guadalupe Garcia-Martinez, 48, of North Hyde Park Avenue in Durham, also was arrested Friday and charged with conspiring with Gonzalez to traffic cocaine. She also was pinpointed by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and still in Durham County Jail Saturday under a $500,000 bond.

 

In other crime:

 

  • Christopher Jaquel Greene, 16, of Bengel Drive in Durham, was arrested Friday and charged with possession with intent to sell or distribute marijuana. He was released the same day from Durham County Jail on a $1,500 bond.
  • Julius Hernandez Kearney, 50, of Axtel Ridgeway Road in Norlina, was arrested Friday and charged with two counts felony larceny, obtaining property under false pretense, larceny of a firearm and possession of a firearm by a felon. He was still in Durham County Jail Saturday under a $25,000 bond.
  • Chad Lawrence Johnson, 42, of Guess Road in Durham, was arrested Friday and charged with heroin possession and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released the same day from Durham County Jail on a $2,000 bond.
  • Laquita Denise Bright, 32, of Alma Street in Durham, was arrested Friday and charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell or distribute marijuana, maintaining a house used for keeping and selling a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was released the same day from Durham County Jail on a $3,000 bond.
  • Anthony Gerald McInnis, 39, of Habitat Circle in Chapel Hill, was arrested Friday and charged with common law robbery, felony conspiracy, injury to personal property, misdemeanor conspiracy, two counts of misdemeanor larceny, two counts of possession of stolen goods and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. He was still in Durham County Jail Saturday under a $21,000 bond.
  • Charles Edward Cole, 46, of North Roxboro Street in Durham, was arrested Friday and charged with larceny by removing an anti-theft device. He was released the same day from Durham County Jail on a $1,000 bond.
  • Eric DeSean Wells, 20, of Morreene Road in Durham, was arrested Friday and charged with misdemeanor possession of stolen property and fleeing/eluding arrest with a motor vehicle. According to the arrest report, he was driving recklessly down Cornwallis Road and South Roxboro Road and had pills in his possession. He was released the same day from Durham County Jail on a $3,500 bond.
