Auction to benefit Crisis Response Center

DURHAM – A silent and live auction Thursday at the Durham Hilton, 3800 Hillsborough Road, will benefit the Durham Crisis Response Center.

The event, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., will include live music and hors d'oeuvres. It is open to the public.

For more than 20 years, DCRC has been the sole provider of comprehensive shelter and support services in the Durham area, providing counseling, legal advocacy, support groups and shelter to survivors and their families in the aftermath of domestic or sexual violence.

DSS office to close Tuesday morning

DURHAM – Durham County  Department of Social Services offices will close  Tuesday from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for a staff meeting.

All Durham County DSS staff members will attend the meeting. The department will resume normal hours at 11:30 a.m.

Citizens should call 911 to reach an on-call social worker to report child/adult abuse or neglect during the office closing.

Book sale at Northgate

DURHAM -- Northgate Mall will host a special clearance book sale of stock from its previous bookseller on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. New books will be $2 each, or three for $5; used books, $1 each, six for $5; or fill a provided bag for $20.

The book sale will be in space #117 near entrance 2 across from Rainbow. Northgate is at 1058 West Club Blvd.
