Bicyclist hurt near Pickett Road
DURHAM – A bicyclist was hurt about 7:05 a.m. Monday when he was hit by a vehicle near Structure House Drive at Pickett Road, police said.
He suffered injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening, police spokeswoman Kammie Michael said. She said police have no description of the vehicle and that no charges have been filed.
Tahitian pearl necklace stolen
DURHAM – A Tahitian pearl necklace and an 18-carat yellow-gold diamond ring were among property stolen Jan. 4 from a residence in the 100 block of West Main Street.
Also taken were a camcorder, 40 Vicodin tablets, valium, 14-carat yellow-gold and diamond cuff links, a sapphire and diamond ring and a bracelet. Total value of the items was $11,856.
In other Durham crime:
- A Family Fare BP in the 1000 block of West Main Street was robbed Jan. 4, and $300 was taken.
- Burglars hit a house Jan. 7 in the 100 block of Edgemont Lane and stole a Wii video game console, video games, a television and jewelry worth $2,300.
- Hector Miguel Agilar-Farias, 20, of North Miami Boulevard, was arrested Saturday and charged with assault on a female, assault on a child under 12 and assault on a handicapped person. He was in the Durham County Jail Monday under a $3,500 bond.
- Willie Russell, 37, of North Maple Street, was arrested Saturday and charged with cyber stalking.
Man charged with DWI
CHAPEL HILL - Police charged a 31-year-old man with driving while impaired Friday after he lost control of his car and crashed into a guardrail near Southern Village.
Police charged Guillermo M. Hernandez of 1105 Hwy 54 Bypass, R-7, Chapel Hill, with DWI. He also was charged with driving without a license, driving without insurance, careless and reckless driving, improper registration, leaving the scene of an accident and having an open container of alcohol in his vehicle.
He refused to give a breath sample, so police got a search warrant to obtain a sample of his blood to test for alcohol, according to police report.
Hernandez was driving south on U.S. 15-501 at 80 mph in a 45 mph zone when he lost control on a curve, according to an accident report.
Hernandez and his passengers jumped from the vehicle and ran away. Police caught Hernandez on Copperline Drive.
Two passengers, who were 16, were charged with resisting arrest.
