Battaglia also endorsed by group

A copy-paste glitch in an email resulted in one endorsement’s omission from the North Carolina Sheriff Police Alliance earlier this week.

“It was real simple,” said Andy Miller, the alliance president, on Thursday. “I copied and pasted from the original document, but for some reason missed one.”

The announcement sent to The Herald-Sun on Monday included endorsements for Mike Andrews for Durham County sheriff, Charles Blackwood for Orange County sheriff, Brian Aus for Durham County district attorney, incumbent Durham Judge Doretta Walker and Steven Storch, a challenger for the judicial seat held by Pat Evans.

It didn’t include the organization’s endorsement of Fred Battaglia over incumbent Judge Nancy Gordon.

“I was in a hurry,” Miller said. “I rushed and this happened. I take full responsibility.”

Battaglia earned a nod from the alliance, Miller said, because he “offers a balanced blend of legal knowledge, compassion and common sense.

“In a county with as many challenges as Durham has, we believe that Fred’s work ethic, coupled with the aforementioned traits, will serve the citizens of Durham County proud.”
