NCAA Tournament: All Devils & Heels
Sunday is a huge day for area college basketball fans — Duke and North Carolina’s men’s and women’s basketball teams will all be playing NCAA Tournament games between noon and midnight.
Two of the most illustrious programs in men’s basketball will face off in Kansas City when top seed Kansas faces No. 8 North Carolina (5:15 p.m., WRAL) in the Round of 32. The Jayhawks knocked the Tar Heels out in the Elite 8 last season.
UNC and Kansas are two of only three schools — Kentucky is the other — with 2,000 all-time wins. No. 2 seed Duke can make it four tonight with a win against No. 7 Creighton in Philadelphia (9:40 p.m., TBS). Creighton features Doug McDermott, the nation’s second-leading scorer at 23.1 points per game.
While both men’s teams opened NCAA Tournament play on Friday, the women’s teams will start today. The second-seeded Blue Devils, who won the ACC regular-season and tournament titles, will host No. 15 Hampton (12:05 p.m., ESPN2) at Cameron Indoor Stadium, followed by a game between No. 7 Oklahoma State and No. 10 DePaul.
After missing the NCAA Tourmament last season, No. 3 UNC heads to Newark, Del. to face No. 14 Albany (2:30 p.m., ESPN2).
