Registration open for Key Volunteer luncheon

DURHAM — The registration deadline for the Volunteer Center’s Key Volunteer Recognition Luncheon is April 8.

The annual event, which honors area nonprofits’ outstanding volunteers, will be April 15 at the Durham Hilton, 3800 Hillsborough Road. Registration begins at 11 a.m., with the luncheon starting at 11:30

The cost of the lunch is $21. Seating is limited, so the Volunteer Center is strongly encouraging organizations to preregister. Box 3477, Durham, NC 27702.

Since 1974, the Volunteer Center has organized this event as a way for area nonprofits to recognize the valuable contributions of their volunteers. 

Registration extended for city’s aquatics school

Durham -- Durham Parks and Recreation has extended until March 27 deadline to register for its spring break Durham Aquatics School. Teens 16-19 can participate to become a certified American Red Cross Lifeguard.

The certification is free and will be held at Edison Johnson Aquatics Center (500 W. Murray Avenue) April 1 –April 5 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Preference will be given to participants who express interest in working as a lifeguard at one of Durham’s pools.

Interested participants must complete and submit an application by March 8. The packet includes detailed information about the program requirements and can be found at www.DPRPlayMore.org.
