Sapped by a weak weekend

Not a good day — or week — for Triangle college football programs. After N.C. State's loss to Clemson on Thursday night, North Carolina, Duke and N.C. Central were victimized on Saturday. First, Georgia Tech bounced back from an early deficit to hand UNC a 28-20 loss in Atlanta behind Durham native Vad Lee's offense. Next, Duke twice trailed Pittsburgh by at least 20 points before pulling to within 58-55 at Wallace Wade Stadium. Jamison Crowder scored touchdowns with a 62-yard pass reception, a 7-yard run and an 82-yard punt return in the second quarter for the Blue Devils. Finally, No. 4 Towson pulled away from N.C. Central for a 35-17 victory after leading just 14-10 at halftime.
