Duo arrested in pair of robberies
DURHAM – Durham police arrested two men Thursday in connection with two robberies within hours of each other.
Paul Faison, 19, and Michael Alexander Overby, 21, both of Durham, were arrested and charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, second-degree kidnapping and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.
Overby also was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The men are accused of robbing a bakery at 1839 Liberty Street at gunpoint around 7:30 p.m. About two hours later, investigators said, they robbed the Church’s Chicken at 3400 N. Roxboro St.
Faison was held in the Durham County Jail under $750,000 bond. Overby, also in the Durham jail, was held under $700,000 bond.

Man shot near Lyon Park
DURHAM – A 31-year-old man was seriously injured late Thursday after someone apparently shot him while he was in his vehicle.
The incident was reported in the 1100 block of Cornell Street, near Lyon Park, about 10:49 p.m.
No charges had been filed yet on Friday afternoon. The case remained under investigation, said Kammie Michael, police spokeswoman.

In other news:

• Jamie Denard Odom, 38, of Barnsdale Drive in Durham was arrested Thursday and charged with assault with serious bodily injury. He was held in the Durham County Jail under $20,000 bond.
• Roy Thomas Patrick-Speer, 36, of Ashwood Square in Durham was arrested Thursday and charged with assault on a female and assault with serious bodily injury. He was held in the Durham County Jail under $20,000 bond.
• Donovan L. Sanders, 24, of Gunston Lane in Durham was arrested Thursday and charged with possession of a weapon of mass destruction, possession of a gun with an altered serial number, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver cocaine, maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for controlled substances and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was held in the Durham County Jail under $60,000 bond.
