Red-hot Duke, UNC renew rivalry as weather abates
Eight days after a winter storm caused the first postponement in the history of the Duke-North Carolina men’s basketball rivalry, the two schools are set to finally meet for the first time this season Thursday at the Smith Center (9:10 p.m., ESPN/WRAL).
The Blue Devils couldn’t make the trip to Chapel Hill last Wednesday after snow and ice blanketed the region. Now each team is in the midst of playing four games in an eight-day span, but the condensed schedule so far hasn’t affected either team’s play.
After starting 1-2 in the ACC and falling out of the nation’s top 10, No. 5-ranked Duke (21-5, 10-3) has won nine of its last 10 games — the only loss was in overtime at No. 1 Syracuse.
The Tar Heels (18-7, 8-4) had an even worse beginning to conference play, going 1-4, but now bring a seven-game winning streak into the rivalry game.
