Gun violence claims third victim in two days
Durham police on Tuesday were investigating the third fatal shooting in two days.
Desmond Ramario Williams, 28, of Durham was found dead on the road in the 2600 block of East Shoreham Street about 2:21 p.m. after police received a “shots fired” call.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
His death came a day after Jerron McGirt, 34, and Jessica Liriano, 33, were found shot at 2201 Cheek Road. Liriano was found dead inside the house they shared, while McGirt later died of his injuries at the hospital.
State offender records indicate that McGirt had a criminal history, including robbery with a dangerous weapon, breaking and entering and larceny.
Police have yet to report a motive or make any arrests in the Cheek Road homicides or the Shoreham Street death. Nor have they reported progress in the investigation of a double shooting – non-fatal – in a home on Dowd Street early Monday.
These latest shootings follow two violent weeks that saw teen brothers gunned down on Grace Lane and another man killed in the street on Fidelity Drive. They also came a day after Police Chief Jose Lopez made a presentation to City Council talking about a decrease in crime, but acknowledging a recent spate of violence that has “made the headlines.”
