Woman reappointed to child-fatality task force
Gov. Pat McCrory on Thursday reappointed Sarah Veribest of Orange County to the N.C. Child Fatality Task Force.
Veribest is executive director of the UNC Center for Maternal and Infant Health.
The Child Fatality Task Force exists to conduct a statistical study of the incidences and causes of child deaths in the state and establish a profile of child deaths.
It also examines laws, rules and policies about the confidentiality of information that affect agencies with responsibilities for children, including state and local health, mental health, social services, education and law enforcement agencies, to determine if those regulations inappropriately impede the exchange of information necessary to protect children from preventable deaths.
It has 35 members, each of whom serve two-year terms. The governor appoints four.
