After breaking ground for the County’s Health and Human Services building in May 2009, the first of two phases for the location was completed in 2011. In the first phase, the Durham County Department of Public Health, Durham County Veteran Services and the former Durham Center for mental health services moved into the space in 2012. Once DSS has relocated to the building, the county's plan to offer combined human services at one centralized location will be achieved.

“We are looking forward to this relocation that will bring the county’s human services under one roof,” said Michael Becketts, DSS director. “Now that DSS, Public Health and Veteran Services departments will be housed in one building, the county will finally offer our clients the seamless services that we have wanted to provide for many years.”
