Collegiate Battle of the Bands this Sunday
The marching bands of Duke University, NCCU, N.C. A&T State University and Elizabeth City State University will face off this Sunday during an epic Battle of the Bands.
The event will be held at NCCU's O'Kelly-Riddick Stadium, and gates open at 2:30 p.m.
The event begins at 3:30 p.m.
Fourteen high school marching bands from along the East Coast also will compete.
D.C. event planner Adrian Carroll said the battle is in its 11th year. The first year, he pinpointed Durham for the event location because he wanted to "target an area that was in need."
"I got Duke University to participate at an HBCU battle of the bands," Carroll said of this year's lineup. "That just shows how diverse this world is. It just shows how diversity is powerful."
Tickets will be $14 in advance and $16 the day of the show. Tickets can be purchased at the NCCU Ticket Office (919-530-5170) or purchased online at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/453982.
"The colleges, it's an ego thing with them," Carroll said. "They just do exhibitions for bragging rights."
