Duke names 12 University Scholars

Duke University has selected 12 high school graduates, including three international students, for the University Scholarship.

Each scholarship has an estimated value of $240,000 over four years, covering tuition, room, board and mandatory fees. The program started in 1998 with a gift from Duke alumna Melinda French Gates and her husband, Bill Gates, through the William H. Gates Foundation.

Recipients for 2014 include:

  • Jihane Bettahi of Fes, Morocco
  • Shivam Narayan Dave of Pearland, Texas
  • Attyat Mayans of Santa Fe, New Mexico
  • Chandler Julianne McMillan of Long Beach, New York
  • Cam-Ha Thi Nguyen of Hanoi, Vietnam
  • Sanjukta Santra of Fort Collins, Colorado
  • Dejana Saric of Loma Linda, California
  • Pratiksha Sharma of Lumbini, Nepal
  • Austin Tate of Buda, Texas
  • Shadman Mohammed Uddin of Roswell, Georgia
