No new contracts for NCCU band leaders

Members and fans of the N.C. Central University "Marching Sound Machine" learned last week that university administrators wouldn't renew the contracts of band director Jorim Reid or staff members Lamon Lawhorn and Karimah Bennett.

Their departure has left the band in disarray, according to social media posts and a petition at change.org.

Dwight Perry, chairman of the NCCU Board of Trustees, on Tuesday deferred comment "regarding these personnel changes" to Chancellor Debra Saunders-White.
