UNC researcher visits White House concussion summit
A concussion researcher from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on Thursday is scheduled to participate in a White House summit on concussions in youth sports.
Kevin Guskiewicz, senior associate dean for natural sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences and Kenan Distinguished Professor of Exercise and Sport Science, joins President Barack Obama and about 200 sports officials, medical experts, activists and athletes for the Healthy Kids and Safe Sports Concussion Summit.
He helped write concussion guidelines now recommended by the National Collegiate Athletic Association, the National Football League, the National Athletic Trainers' Association and the American College of Sports Medicine.
The Obama administration is expected to announce new commitments from public and private sectors to raise awareness to identify, treat and prevent concussions.
