Margaret McKinley Farland and Mark Robert Peter Griffin were married at four o'clock in the afternoon on June 27, 2009 at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Greensboro. The Reverend John Akers officiated. A reception at the Greensboro Country Club followed the ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Melanie Anne Taylor of Chapel Hill, and Mr. Christopher Simpson Farland of Wilmington. She is the granddaughter of the late Mrs. Kathleen Bryan Edwards and the late Mr. Ray Howard Taylor Jr. of Greensboro and the late Ambassador and Mrs. Joseph Simpson Farland of Winchester, Virginia. She is the great granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph McKinley Bryan of Greensboro. The bride is a graduate of Saint Andrew's High School of Middletown, Delaware and received a B.A. in Mathematics from Georgetown University. She was presented by the Debutante Club of Greensboro and the Terpsichorean Club of Raleigh.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Brian Griffin of Melbourne, Australia. He is the grandson of Mrs. Shirley Catherine Burgess and the late Mr. Jack Dennis Burgess of Melbourne, Australia, and Mr. and Mrs. Harold George Griffin of Sydney, Australia. He is a graduate of De La Salle College in Melbourne, Australia and received an A.S. from Durham Technical Community College, graduating with high honors.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride was attended by her sister, Kathleen Clay Farland of Boston, Massachusetts as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Anne Simpson Farland, sister of the bride, of Atlanta, Georgia, Sarah Catherine Farland, sister of the bride, of Greensboro, and Katherine Emma Anne Griffin, sister of the groom, of Melbourne, Australia.
The best man was David Charles Fajgenbaum of Philadelphia, Pennsylvannia. Groomsmen were Wesley Dale McCallister of Raleigh, John Woodward Scull of Wilmington, and Jason McClelland Heathcote of Raleigh.
Readers were the aunt of the bride, The Honorable Pricey Harrison, and the father of the groom, John Brian Griffin. Cousins of the bride, Saskia Clay Taylor and Annelies Price Taylor of Madison, Wisconsin served as program attendants.
The couple will reside in Chapel Hill.

John and LeAnda Barnard of Statesville announce the engagement of their daughter, Mary Layne Barnard, to Forrest Linston Adams III, both of Raleigh.
The prospective bridegroom is the son of Carla and Jimmy Rose of Franklinton, and Forrest and Sherri Adams of Rougemont.
A September 19, 2009 wedding has been planned at Grace Baptist Church in Statesville.

Mr. and Mrs. C.C. "Skip" Rainey III of Hillsborough are proud to announce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Ashley Merit Rainey of Raleigh, to Mr. Bradford Adams Cox of Raleigh.
Mr. Cox is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Cox of Tarboro. Miss Rainey is a graduate of Northern High School in Durham and NC State University where she majored in Communications. She is employed by Ajilon Finance in Raleigh as a Sr. Account Manager.
Mr. Cox is a graduate of Tarboro High School and NC State University. He is employed as an Information Specialist at the NC State Real Estate Commission in Raleigh.
The wedding will take place August 22, 2009 in Raleigh.

The Rev. and Mrs. Ernest G. Holt of Durham celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary June 22, 2009 at a dinner party. Hosts/hostesses were their daughters. The couple has four children, Sue Dixon of Cary, Cathy Norris of Cary, Janice Bennett of Lexington, S.C., Gloria Harmon of Spartanburg, S.C., and seven grandchildren.
The two were married June 22, 1949 at Florida St. Baptist Church, Greensboro.

The couple has two children, Brenda Brown of Durham, Faye (Glenn) McCullen of Kenly. The couple also has four grandchildren, Susan (Phil) Pope, Andy (Tammy) Brown, Greg McCullen and Lisa (Chris) O'Quinn and three great-grandchildren.
The two were married June 10, 1949 at Lowes Grove Baptist Church in Durham.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ward of Rougemont celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary June 27, 2009 at Edgewood Baptist Church. Hosts/hostesses were family members of Durham.
The couple has three children, Mark (Jeanne) of Clayton, Tim (Terri) of Knoxville, Tenn., and Jeremy (Michelle) of Rougemont. The couple also has five grandchildren, Kyle Ward (Catherine) of Clayton, who is serving in Iraq, Monica Ward, of Clayton, Alex Ward, and Max Ward, both of Knoxville, Tenn. and Nicholas Ward, of Rougemont, and one great grandchild, Will Ward, of Clayton.
The two were married June 26, 1959 at Grey Stone Baptist Church.
