Library seeks bands for Garage Band Jam series

There is going to be a new free summer music series in downtown Durham next month, and local bands have a chance to be in it.
The Durham County Library Main Branch on Roxboro Street is accepting submissions to be part of its Garage Band Jam on Fridays July 11, 18, 25 and Aug. 1. Local bands or individual singers and musicians will perform from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Fridays on the first floor lawn of the library. The most popular performer has a shot at getting free studio time.
Joel White, manager of the main library, said the new series is an extension of the library’s Books, Blues and Karaoke open mic nights that have been going on about a year. For that series, a Friends of the Library grant funded equipment including amps and a PA system.
The Garage Band Jam is something new as a way to get more use out of the equipment and give local bands an opportunity to perform, he said.
Submissions of YouTube video links that show a band’s music may be sent to White at jwhite@dconc.gov or call him for more information at 919-560-0114. White said he hasn’t received many submissions yet, and the jam is open to all genres of music.
