End of year gospel concert Sunday
DURHAM – The Rebirth Baptist Church Ministries will sponsor an “End of the Year Gospel Concert” featuring area groups at 3 p.m. Sunday at 462 S. Driver St. Performers include Sister Leslie Swann and Sister Jessica Palmer, The Voices of Praise, Sons of Thunder and The Brodie Brothers. The Rev. Leroy Long is host pastor.

Emancipation Day service Jan. 1 at Peace
DURHAM -- An Emancipation Day Observance will be held at 11 a.m. Jan. 1 at Peace Missionary Baptist Church, 2608 NC 55, Durham. The Rev. Lorenzo Lynch, pastor of the Ebenezer Baptist Church of Charlotte, will be the speaker. Durham and neighboring communities are invited to share in the observance. The Rev. William Daye is pastor.

Bradshaw Quartet performs New Year’s Eve concert
CHAPEL HILL — The Bradshaw Quartet and vocalist Christen Campbell will be featured in a New Year’s Eve jazz concert at 7 p.m. Dec. 31 at United Church of Chapel Hill, 1321 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Admission is free. An offering will be received to benefit the Inter-Faith Council for Social Service.
“This is the fifth year the combo has played this fundraiser and it is, without a doubt, one of our favorite gigs of the year,” Campbell said in a church announcement. “What a great opportunity to show gratitude for our greater beloved community.”
The instrumental Bradshaw Quartet from Chapel Hill and Durham was founded in 2003 to extend the musical fellowship its members enjoy as the rhythm section for the multiracial gospel choir United Voices of Praise. Charles Bradshaw, keyboards; Matthew Busch, tenor and soprano saxophone; Brad Kintner, upright and fretless bass; and Odessa Shaw, drums, each brings more than 20 years of experience and training from a broad range of musical styles. The quartet will showcase selected jazz standards, new interpretations of rhythm and blues and pop classics, and original compositions. Campbell, of Chapel Hill, previously traveled the world as a jazz singer.

DivorceCare support group at Aldersgate UMC
DURHAM -- Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1320 Umstead Road, will begin offering a separation/divorce support group in January. DivorceCare is a free support group that will meet weekly. It is centered around a 13-week, video-based program, though participants may attend any week. Sessions will be held Mondays from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Jan. 6 through March 31 in the Aldersgate UMC Family Life Center Room 207. It will be led by Michelle Tucker and Jack Snyder. AME missionary society donates purses, toiletries
DURHAM -- The December project of The Minnie Pearson Area Women's Missionary Society was "Power of the Purse," completed during its Christmas meeting Dec. 8 at Wayman Chapel AME Church in Graham. The Minnie Pearson Area Women's Missionary Society is a division of the Western North Carolina Conference of the 2nd Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church and includes 23 churches in Orange, Caswell, Person, Alamance and Durham counties.
Missionaries brought 116 gently used purses filled with personal items for women to be given to agencies in five counties. Shirley L. Smith, coordinator for the two Durham County churches, Emmanuel AME and St. Joseph AME, and Emma Devine, donated 37 purses to CAARE Inc. on behalf of the Rosa Horry and Minnie S. Pearson Women's Missionary Societies of Durham County.


Mount Zoar, New Calvary to have Watch Night service
