Four Christmas Eve services at Duke Chapel
DURHAM -- Duke Chapel will hold four Christmas Eve worship services, including a live telecast of the final service. A service for families with young children will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, followed by a worship service of carols and Holy Communion at 4 p.m., with Duke Chapel Dean Luke Powery preaching. Powery will also preach at a 6 p.m. Tuesday service that includes carols and the Amalgam brass ensemble. The traditional service of Lessons and Carols begins at 11 p.m., with an instrumental prelude at 10:30 p.m. The chapel advises arriving 30 minutes before the service, which will be shown live on Time Warner Cable News channels 14, 114, 414, 1114 or 1414 at 11 p.m. Tuesday. All four services will be webcast at chapel.duke.edu and youtube.com/dukechapel.
Christmas Eve at St. Joseph’s Episcopal
DURHAM -- St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church, 1902 W. Main St., will hold a Christmas Carols service at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday followed by the Christmas Eve service at 6 p.m. A Christmas Day service that is quiet and meditation will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Karen Barfield is vicar.
Three Christmas Eve services at St. Paul’s Lutheran
DURHAM -- St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 1200 W. Cornwallis Road, will hold three Christmas Eve services: a 5 p.m. service for families that is appropriate for all ages, at 7 p.m. with candlelight and the Laudate Handbell Choir, and at 10 p.m. with candlelight and the Senior Choir. Main St., will hold a Music and Poetry of the Season service at 4 p.m. Sunday featuring music and songs by Lesley Curtis and Deborah Coclanis, and poetic narration by the Rev. Marilyn Hedgpeth. Also, at 5 p.m. Tuesday, a Christmas Eve worship service will be held that includes a pageant, Holy Communion and candle lighting.

Blue Christmas, Christmas Eve services at Temple Baptist
DURHAM -- Temple Baptist Church, 4504 Sterling Drive, Durham, will hold a Blue
Christmas service at 6 p.m. Sunday. The service is for those who are dealing with situations like the death of a loved one, sadness, divorce, job loss, sickness, depression, isolation or financial hardships. Blue Christmas is a meditative service with communion and lighting of candles of grief, courage, memories, and love in remembrance of loved ones while preparing for the coming of Christ.

Longest Night service; party for Jesus at UCCH
CHAPEL HILL – United Church of Chapel Hill, 1321 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., will hold a Longest Night worship service at 5 p.m. Sunday for those who are in mourning or in pain of any kind. It will be a service of gentle music, candlelit prayer, scriptural reflection and communion. The Rev. Susan Steinberg, associate pastor, and Aly Breisch, parish nurse, will preside. CHAPEL HILL -- University United Methodist Church, 150 E. Franklin St., will hold a Christmas Eve service at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday designed especially for families with young children. The 30-minute service is participatory, with children and their parents invited to sit on the steps in the front of the church for story reading and Christmas carols.
