School hosted STEAM training
Orange Charter School recently hosted a national STEAM certification training.
STEAM founder Georgette Yakman conducted the training, which integrates science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics into K-12 curriculum, on Jan. 21-22.
Educators gathered from around the country for the training.

Juniors urged to attend Saturday Academy
High school juniors attending Durham Public Schools are encouraged to attend Saturday Academy at Durham School of the Arts on Feb. 8, 15, 22 and March 1 from 9 a.m., to 12 p.m., to prepare for the ACT on March 4.
Each instructor will have about 15 to 20 students in a class.
There will be five teachers per tested subject area, which includes English, writing, reading, comprehension, mathematics and science reasoning.

‘Walk for the Cure’ at Little River
Little River Elementary will host a “Walk for the Cure” event titled “Brighten the Night in the Fight Against Cancer” on Feb. 28 from 6:30 to 8 p.m., to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Cancer Foundation.
With a $15 donation, participants will receive a T-shirt, water bottle, glow stick and necklace. Refreshments will be served.

Tickets available for ‘Evening of Entertainment’
Tickets are on sale for “An Evening of Entertainment,” the DPS Scholarship Foundation and DPS annual fundraiser and musical workshop to showcase student talent and to raise money for scholarships.
The event will be held March 1 at 7 p.m. at the Durham Performance Art Center downtown.
Performances will feature choral students from Durham Public Schools performing a wide genre of music.
