Ninth graders sought for Junior Leadership Durham

DURHAM – Junior Leadership Durham is recruiting ninth graders for its 2013-14 class who attend a Durham school, whether it is public, private, home or charter. The volunteer nonprofit’s program is free to participants. Application deadline is March 22. For an application, visit the website at

Glenwood show choir off to perform at regionals

CHAPEL HILL - The Glenwood Elementary Gator Show Choir has been invited to perform for the audience at the North Carolina Scholastic Activities Regional Middle/High School Show Choir Regional Competition on Friday at Hunt High School in Wilson. They perform at 7 p.m.

Smith Middle students hold Model UN Conference

CHAPEL HILL - The Carolina Center for Education Excellence, attached to Smith Middle School, on March 15 plays host to a Model UN Conference. Thirty students from Smith are expected to dress in professional attire and assume roles as global peacemakers in competition against teams from other Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools middle schools. Students must attempt to solve the world's problems without cell phones or computers.

Silent auction planned at Ephesus

CHAPEL HILL - The Ephesus Elementary Parent and Teacher Association will hold its seventh annual silent auction on Friday, 6 to 8:30 p.m., in the school's atrium and gymnasium. Last year, the auction raised $6,500. Funds support educational programming and go toward supplies for students, teachers and parents. Silent auction and raffle items include tickets for two to a UNC-Duke basketball game, a 7-day beach house stay on the North Carolina Coast and tickets to the Queen's Cup Steeplechase in Charlotte.
