College fair to be held at Northgate on Sunday

DURHAM -- Students and parents will have the chance to meet with representatives from 100 colleges and universities, as far away as Alabama, Virginia and Massachusetts, this Sunday at Northgate Mall.

The annual Durham College Fair will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. and is organized by Durham Public Schools and Duke University, according to the Northgate announcement.

Durham high school counselors will also be on hand to help students. The fair will be accessible from entrances 2, 4, and 8 at Northgate Mall, 1058 West Club Blvd.

 

Medical student receives national scholarship

Fourth-year student Mathew Thomas at the Duke School of Medicine is one of nine recipients of the Dennis R. Washington Achievement Graduate Scholarship, which is given each year to select Horatio Alger Scholars, or students who have succeeded in school in spite of adversity, who are pursuing graduate, medical or law degrees.
