Culbreth honored at play festival
Culbreth Middle School brought home several awards from the 2014 N.C. Theatre Conference Middle School Play Festival.
Led by Terra Hodge, Culbreth’s theater program presented “May the Farce be with You” at the festival March 15.
The performance was rated excellent as well as honored for Excellence in Specialty Make-Up, Specialty Theatre Arts: Excellence in Acrobatics, Excellence in Costumes, Excellence in Student Design and Production – sound design, Outstanding Achievement in Student Design and Production – graphic design, and excellence in acting to both Fiona Galinsky and Skyler Boyer.
The NCTC Middle School Play Festival is made possible by support from the N.C. Arts Council and happens each spring at two regional sites. This year more than 300 students from 13 schools participated in the event presenting 15 plays.
Each school has 45 minutes to present their play before leaving the stage completely clear for the next group. After their performance, students receive feedback from professional actors and directors.
The Middle School Play Festival allows schools’ to display their commitment to arts education, contribute to the development of future audiences for live performing arts, honor teachers and bring life to lessons taught in the performing arts classroom.
The N.C. Theatre Conference has been supporting non-profit theaters, schools, students and artists since 1970.
