Bell gets credit union scholarship

DURHAM - Imani Bell was awarded a scholarship from the Local Government Federal Credit Union Scholarship Fund. A member of the credit union, Bell plans to attend the University of South Florida. The scholarship was awarded by the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation.

Carter new president of Child Care Services Association

CHAPEL HILL – Anna Carter has been named president and CEO of the Child Care Services Association.

Carter was the previous deputy director of the division of child development and early education. In this capacity, Carter provided leadership for a state agency that was responsible for implementing quality program standards, helping families access child care through subsidies and supporting improved early care and education across the state.

She has replaced outgoing president Sue Russell, who helped found CCSA and served as its first president. Russell will continue working with CCSA as a part-time executive director of CCSA’s TEACH Early Childhood National Technical Assistance and Quality Assurance Center.

Valle named All-American Scholar

DURHAM – M. Adaia Valle of Sherwood Githens Middle School has been named an All-American Scholar by the United States Achievement Academy.
Valle is being recognized for having earned a 3.3 or higher grade-point average. Valle was sponsored by Christy McCormick.
She will appear in the nationally published All-American Scholar yearbook.
Valle is the daughter of Eman and Marley Valle and the granddaughter of Rufina Lemus, all of Durham.

KidZNotes summer camp concert

DURHAM -- KidZNotes will have its third annual summer camp concert at 2 p.m. on Thursday at E.K. Powe Elementary School.
The free concert is the culmination of three weeks of work by 70 students in the summer program and will include students performing on individual instruments as well as in song, in full orchestra and small ensembles.
The students in the KidZNotes this year come from Eastway Elementary, Y.E. Smith Elementary Museum School, E.K. Powe Elementary, Maureen Joy Charter School and Club Boulevard Humanities Magnet Elementary.
