School choice workshops at Cooperative Extension
DURHAM -- The Durham County Cooperative Extension will host two new school choice workshops this week for parents who want to explore K-12 public school options, including charter schools.
The first workshop will be held Wednesday from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Cooperative Extension office, at 721 Foster St.
The second workshop will be held Friday from noon to 1:30 p.m., also at the Cooperative Extension office.
Parents will learn what options are available, what to look for in a school, how to evaluate schools based on your child’s and your family’s needs and receive tips for the magnet school lottery.

Learn more about middle schools
DURHAM -- Parents can learn more about Durham Public Schools’ middle schools Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. or noon to 2 p.m., at Rogers-Herr Middle School, 911 W. Cornwallis Road.
The “5th Grade Parent Expo: Moving to the Middle” is designed to teach parents how to help their children prepare for middle school life and will cover topics such as registration, course selection and extra curricular activities.

Tickets on sale for ‘Evening of Entertainment’
DURHAM -- Tickets are now on sale for “An Evening of Entertainment,” the DPS Scholarship Foundation and DPS annual fundraiser and musical workshop to showcase student talent and to raise money for scholarships.
The event will be held March 1 at 7 p.m., at the Durham Performance Art Center downtown.
Performances will feature choral students from Durham Public Schools performing a wide genre of music.
