Peace Missionary Baptist celebrates anniversary by helping hungry
DURHAM – Peace Missionary Baptist Church is planning to celebrate its church anniversary the same way it did last year, by packaging meals for Stop Hunger Now. Members will package 10,000 meals Saturday to be delivered to developing countries.
Members will celebrate Peace Missionary Baptist’s 39th anniversary by partnering with Stop Hunger Now Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the church, 2608 Apex Highway (NC Hwy 55), Durham.
Stop Hunger Now is an international hunger relief organization. Volunteers package dehydrated, high-protein, nutritious meals that are used in crisis situations, school feeding programs and orphanages in developing countries.
Peace will also have a special anniversary service at 4 p.m. Sunday at the church. The Rev. Robert Daniels, of St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church in Durham, will provide the message.
Peace Missionary was founded on July 25, 1974. The Rev. William E. Daye has served as pastor ever since. For information, visit www.peacemissionary.org.

Upcoming concerts at Sacred Grounds Coffeehouse
DURHAM -- Sacred Grounds Coffeehouse at St. Paul United Methodist Church has several concerts scheduled for the next month.
Sacred Grounds is in a building next to the church at 2700 N. Roxboro St. in Durham. Concerts are held at 7:30 p.m. Saturdays. Donations are accepted for artists. The schedule is as follows:
July 27: New Direction, a bluegrass gospel band. Aug 3: David Russell, a singer and songwriter. Aug 10: Danny Smith, solo after being in Christian vocal trio Trilogy. Children’s movie night Friday at White Rock
DURHAM – The White Rock Baptist Church Children’s Ministry Monthly Movie Night will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. All children through age 12 are invited to the fellowship hall for dinner and the movie “Thunderstruck.” Parents are welcome to stay, but encouraged to use the time for themselves. Community cookout Saturday at Duke Memorial UMC

‘The Cross and the Lynching Tree’ book discussion Sunday
DURHAM -- The Summer Book Reading Series at First Presbyterian Church continues Sunday at 9:45 a.m. in Watts-Hill Hall at the church, 305 E. Main St.
Duke Divinity School student Jonathan Nelson will discuss James H. Cone’s “The Cross and the Lynching Tree.” Cone explores the symbols and their connection in African-American history and community. For information, call the church office at 919-682-5511.

VBS at Fletcher’s Chapel UMC
DURHAM – Fletcher’s Chapel United Methodist Church will host “Everywhere Fun Fair” Vacation Bible School Sunday through July 31 at the church, 1919 Fletcher’s Chapel Road.

Car show and fish fry at Mt. Zion A.M.E.

Noah’s Faith to perform at Rose of Sharon Baptist
DURHAM – Rose of Sharon Baptist Church will hold a combined worship service and concert featuring Noah’s Faith at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
