New pastor at Yates Baptist Church
DURHAM – The Rev. Christopher Ingram has been named the new senior pastor of Yates Baptist Church, 2819 Chapel Hill Road. An installation and celebration service will be held at 11 a.m. March 30, Ingram’s first Sunday at Yates. Speakers include the Rev. Andy Wakefield, dean of Campbell Divinity School and interim pastor at Yates; the Rev. Curtis Freeman, professor of theology and director of the Baptist House of Studies at Duke Divinity School; the Rev. Ka’thy Gore Chappell, leadership development coordinator with CBF North Carolina; the Rev. David Moore, senior consultant for pastoral ministries at the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina; and John Saunders Jr., director of missions for the Yates Baptist Association.

Creative hymnody at Westminster Presbyterian
DURHAM – As part of its 50th anniversary celebration, Westminster Presbyterian Church will host “We Hunger, God: Creative Hymnody with Mary Louise Bringle” on March 30 at the church, 3639 Old Chapel Hill Road.
Bringle, a scholar and hymn writer, will lead a day of music, worship and learning. She is the author of “We Hunger, God,” a hymn commissioned for the church. Bringle will be the guest preacher at the 8:30 and 11 a.m. worship services; talk about creating a new hymnal at 9:45 a.m.; and discuss the creative process of hymn writing at 12:15 p.m. March 30.

Mt. Zoar Missionary Baptist ushers celebrate anniversary
DURHAM -- The Junior and Senior Usher Boards of Mount Zoar Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate their 81st Anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday at Mount Zoar Missionary Baptist Church, 2400 Cheek Road. Lenten services, Wellesley College Choir at St. Paul’s Lutheran
DURHAM -- St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, ELCA is holding midweek Lenten services at 7 p.m. Wednesdays through April 9 at the church, 1200 W. Cornwallis Road. Services are preceded by a Lenten dinner.
Also, St. Paul’s will host the Wellesley College Choir from Wellesley, Mass., at 7:30 p.m. Monday for a benefit concert for Genesis Home. A suggested $5 donation will benefit the Genesis Home, which works to end homelessness for families with children by providing housing and supportive services. Former Shaw dean to speak at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist
BAHAMA – Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 8021 Stagville Road in Bahama, will celebrate the 23rd pastoral anniversary of the Rev. James W. Smith at 11 a.m. March 30. The guest speaker will be the Rev. J. T. Roberson Jr., pastor of New Bethel Baptist Church in Warrenton. Roberson is the former dean of Shaw University Divinity School. The community is invited.

Discussion series of Heidelberg Catechism at FPC
DURHAM -- A six-week discussion on the Heidelberg Catechism, led by Jonathan Nelson, will start at 9:45 a.m. Sunday in Watts-Hill Hall at First Presbyterian Church, 305 E. Main St. Nelson will base the discussions on “Living the Heidelberg: The Heidelberg Catechism and the Moral Life” by Allen D. Verhey, the late Robert Earl Cushman Professor of Christian Theology at Duke Divinity School. Verhey, who died Feb. 26, had planned to lead the discussion himself. Nelson will be teaching the course to honor Verhey’s memory.
Nelson received his master of divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary, is a student at Duke Divinity School and is a candidate for ordination in the Presbyterian Church (USA).
