Reverend to be honored Aug. 2
DURHAM -- The Celebration and Praise Group of Durham will present the 45th Ministerial Anniversary Celebration honoring the the Rev. Lawrence R. Turner Jr. at 2 p.m. Aug. 2 at Hillside High School, 3727 Fayetteville St.
The guest speaker will be Bishop Kenneth Monroe, presiding bishop of the AME Zion Church. Musical guests will include Seed Time and Harvest Choir of Durham, Holland Chapel AME Zion Church Choir of Apex, Hatcher Chapel AME Zion Church Choir of Parkton, and other music ministries.  Special musical guest will be Pastor Luther Barnes of Rocky Mount. Workshop on ministering to veterans
DURHAM – A workshop titled “Ministering to Local & Returning Veterans” will be held from 10:15 a.m. to noon today at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, 2200 S. Alston Ave. Sponsors are Triangle Veterans Wellness Outreach Center, Vets to Vets United, Inc. and VBJ Inc.
The workshop will be moderated by the Rev. Cornelius Battle, pastor of Ebenezer, and facilitated by James R. Alston. The workshop will provide information to ill and injured veterans and their families about benefits and resources.

Cookout, revival at Morning Star Missionary Baptist
DURHAM – Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church will hold its annual free community cookout from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 2 at the church, 4610 Fayetteville Road. Morning Star will also hold a revival at 7 p.m. nightly Aug. 4-8 at the church.
Revival guest preachers are: the Rev. Mark Royster Jr. on Aug. 4, the Rev. Cornelius Battle of Ebenezer Baptist Church on Aug. 5, the Rev. Derric Gregory of Mt. ‘Strong Fathers’ program is topic of RCND meeting
DURHAM -- The Religious Coalition for a Nonviolent Durham will hold its community luncheon roundtable from noon to 1 p.m. today in the Shepherds House United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 107 N. Driver St. The entrance is in back. Lunch is provided. All are welcome.
The roundtable will include discussion about Durham's “Strong Fathers” program with Katie Bauman of the Center for Child and Family Health. “Strong Fathers” is for men referred by child welfare and with a history of domestic violence. The program integrates parenting education with awareness of the impact of domestic violence on children and their mothers. Fathers learn to relate in safe and caring ways to their children, partners, and other family members.

‘Power of Forgiveness’ gospel event Aug. 1
DURHAM -- Faith Based Service Network will present “The Power of Forgiveness Gospel Event” featuring gospel recording artist Artie Parks and others, at 7 p.m. Aug. 1 at Northside Baptist Church, 1239 Berkeley St. It is about victim and offender reconciliation. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Senior Missionaries anniversary at Mount Zoar

Dinner will be at 6 p.m. followed by VBS at 6:30 p.m. for all ages, from nursery through adults. 

Mount Vernon Inspirational Choir concert Sunday

Friends and Family Day at Long’s Memorial
DURHAM -- Long’s Memorial AME Zion Church, 517 Cook Road, will celebrate its first Friends and Family Day at 3 p.m. Sunday to celebrate and reunite with the community. The Rev. William Grant is the host pastor. A special message will be shared by the Rev. Anthony Davis, pastor of Mitchell's Chapel AMEZ Church in Pittsboro. Davis’ choir will provide the music.

Constellation to perform at ERUUF
DURHAM – Constellation, a musical duo from Durham, will offer a special service, “The Language of Music,” at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 3 at Eno River Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 4907 Garrett Road.
Eric Thomas and Helen Wolfson, playing acoustic guitar and hammered dulcimer, respectively, will present vocal and instrumental music, including pieces which they wrote themselves. The service is free. For information, visit www.eruuf.org.
