Fall Preview: November and December the months for dance lovers
Wait for it, wait for it … dance lovers will have to wait a few months this fall to take in some “moving” performances. That’s because right now, the only scheduled shows take place in November and December.
Duke University hosts two dance events in November.
People Get Ready performs “Specific Ocean” at 8 p.m. Nov. 15 and Nov. 16 at Reynolds Industries Theater. Described as “a unique dance company,” this troupe fuses kinetic rock music with movement led by their bandleader Steven Reker. For tickets, go to www.dukeperformances.duke.edu or call 919-684-4444.
November Dances showcases students’ dancing and instructors’ choreographic talents. This Duke Dance Program event takes place Nov. 22 at 10:30 a.m. (children’s show) and 8 p.m. and Nov. 23 at 8 p.m. at Reynolds Industries Theater. Ticket information TBA.
Once again, Carolina Ballet dominates the December dance scene with “The Nutcracker.” Its latest version to Tchaikovsky’s classic score, launched in 2011, features magic by master illusionist Rick Thomas.

The Chapel Hill-based North Carolina Youth Tap Ensemble winds up its 30th anniversary season on Nov. 30 with a “Homecoming” show featuring both alumni and current troupe members. Details TBA.
