Fall Preview: Hip-hop, holiday and Broadway this fall at DPAC

Aug. 22, 2013 @ 02:38 PM

Once Blue Man Group gets the Broadway tour ball rolling, the Durham Performing Arts Center will feature three more Broadway shows before the end of the year.
Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” returns Oct. 8-13, and two new Broadway tour stops to DPAC are “Ghost” Nov. 12-17 and “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” Dec. 3-8.
For a Christmastime concert, singer Michael McDonald will bring his “This Christmas, An Evening of Holiday & Hits” tour to DPAC on Dec. 1. For more Christmas-theme performances, DPAC will host two North Carolina productions with Carolina Ballet’s “The Nutcracker” on stage Dec. 14-15, followed by Ira David Wood III’s production of “A Christmas Carol” Dec. 19-22, a Raleigh tradition at Theatre in the Park that is becoming a Durham tradition, too.
The rest of DPAC’s fall calendar is packed with concerts, comedy and other performances. Just announced this week is a two-night hip-hop and R&B reunion, “The Return of the Legends,” hosted by 9th Wonder as part of N.C. Central University’s homecoming weekend. The NCCU alumni event will be held Oct. 18 and 19, with concerts at 8 p.m. and after-parties to follow, with separate tickets. Concert tickets go on sale today [Friday]. On Oct. 18, performers are Rakim, Pete Rock and CL Smooth, Lords of the Underground, Nice and Smooth, and Camp Lo. On Oct. 19, it’s Bell Biv DeVoe, EPMD, Brand Nubian, Pharcyde and DAS EFX.
