Ciompi Quartet announces summer series

May. 22, 2014 @ 10:37 AM

The Ciompi Quartet will present a summer chamber music series in Duke Gardens.  This year the series has expanded from three to four concerts.  The first two, presented by Jonathan Bagg, are a double-bill celebrating the release of the “Elation” CD.  The program will feature works by Duke faculty composers Scott Lindroth and Stephen Jaffe, and Duke graduate composition alumnus David Kirkland Garner.

Eric Pritchard completes his three-part cycle of the music of J. S. Bach with “The Art of Fugue,” performed by musicians known for their work in baroque performance practice.  Fred Raimi will present a pairing of composers Beethoven and Fauré.
This is the third summer of Ciompi Quartet Presents, when members of the Quartet join with guests to perform chamber music.
All concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. in Kirby Horton Hall in the Doris Duke Center at Sarah P. Duke Gardens, 420 Anderson St.
Subscriptions are $65 and are on sale through July 1. Tickets are available online at tickets.duke.edu, in person at the Duke University Box Office, Bryan Center, weekdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., or by calling 919-684-4444. Single tickets are $20 general admission and go on sale beginning June 9.
