Those Darlins to rock Tour de Fat

Jun. 14, 2013 @ 02:21 PM

If you expect a band performing in North Carolina called Those Darlins will be acoustic Americana, well, scratch that. You’ll get the splash of a cool summer drink in your face when you hear a Nashville rock band instead.

Those Darlins are performing for free Saturday as part of Tour de Fat, the Belgium Brewing Company event billed as “Beer, Bikes & Bemusement” at Diamond View Park in downtown Durham.

Those Darlins’ song, “Summer’s Dead,” released last fall on tour, is easily head-nodding for the crowd, and reminiscent of 1990s alternative rock with a fresh feel. There’s the amusing “Be Your Bro” about a woman who wants to be her guy friend’s brother, not lover. The Tour de Fat performance will include new music from their upcoming EP, their third.

Events at Tour de Fat are going on from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, with entertainment starting at noon.
The Danger Zone Parade Launch is at 11 a.m. with the bike parade going until noon on a route circling Main Street, Buchanan Boulevard, Trinity Avenue and Mangum Street.
Here’s the rest of the event lineup: Scot Nery Show at noon; Honeymoon Cabaret at 12:30 p.m.; Slow Ride at 1:15 p.m.; Stunt Pepper Dance Contest at 2:15 p.m.; YoYo People at 2:40 p.m.; Car for Bike Trade at 3:30 p.m. and then He’s My Brother She’s My Sister at 4 p.m. For information, visit
