Granville, Durham county roads to get facelift

RALEIGH -- Gov. Beverly Perdue announced this week that 31 contracts totaling $73 million had been awarded for highway and bridge projects across North Carolina, including 11 projects funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Four of the projects are local, one in Durham County, three in Granville County. |

VGCC Adult Basic Skills graduates receive diplomas

Vance-Granville Community College held commencement exercises dedicated exclusively to new graduates of Adult Basic Skills programs for the first time last month in the VGCC Civic Center. The graduates included 80 students who completed the Adult High School program and 51 who completed the General Education Development High School Equivalency program. |

OXFORD -- The Oxford City Commission, in a 4-3 vote, approved a budget for fiscal 2009-10 this week with a 5-cent tax increase despite pleas from residents to cut spending instead. |

Parents of late Granville County girls to appeal suit dismissal

OXFORD -- A Superior Court judge has dismissed a lawsuit by the parents of two Granville County girls killed Dec. 1, 2007, on U.S. 15 in the southern part of Granville County when their car was struck by another car driven by a Henderson man trying to outrun a Franklinton police officer. |

DMV cuts visits to Creedmoor

CREEDMOOR -- Beginning Monday, the Division of Motor Vehicles' mobile service center will visit Creedmoor only on the first Thursday of each month to offer vehicle registration and driver license services. |
