Geography meets abstraction in Mehretu exhibit at N.C. Museum

Imagine the North American Aerospace Defense Command's central command, where operators monitor unexplained air activity by watching giant screens of maps that pinpoint all parts of the world. It was that image that came to mind when I entered the gallery of giant paintings by Julie Mehretu.
