Auction at School of Crafts in mountains brings in $526,000

"Sold!" sang out the auctioneer, and one of the 571 patrons at Penland's 23rd Benefit Auction bought another work of art. Between ticket sales, auction purchases and auction sponsors, the 2008 event was a $526,000 success.
