Craft of a reporter, but eye of an artist

: The Herald-Sun
Apr 6, 2008

Ami Vitale's images include young Muslim women standing in front of a mosque where the sign forbids ladies from entering the shrine after 6:30 p.m., a Kashmiri bride being prepared for her engagement party, a Ganges cremation, a camel nestling his head in the lap of his trainer, and a young monk at the door of Trongsa Dzong, the ancestral home of the monarchy of Bhutan. What makes them so spectacular is that while she photographs from the journalist's point of view, her eye is that of an artist.
