MLK Day of Service and other volunteer options

-- Would you like to encourage youngsters to get involved in music on MLK Day? Help MusicianCorps with a Musical Petting Zoo at Northgate Mall Jan. 20. The event goes from 12:30- 6 p.m.
-- The Emily K Center needs help painting classrooms, maintenance and landscaping, Jan. 20, 9 a.m.-noon.
-- Collect and donate books to help Book Harvest collect 10,000 on MLK Day of Service. Drop off books at the Carolina Theater from 1-4 p.m. on Jan. 20.
-- Help improve the English of Hispanic neighbors at Pilgrims UCC on Wednesdays from 7:30-9 p.m. each week. Materials to use are provided, as well as childcare for those who volunteer.
-- The Veggie Van works to deliver boxes of fresh, locally grown veggies to people who have limited access to these products. Volunteers are needed for the van sites at Durham Tech, DC Health Dept. and the Piedmont Health Services.
-- Girls Rock NC needs help with its After School program and at its events. They are celebrating its 10th Anniversary with 10 special concerts.
-- Make a real difference in the life of a young person by becoming a Big Sib. Contact Meredith at (919) 681-1835 for more info.
-- Pitch in and tutor young people after school at the John Avery Boys and Girls Club. Classroom assistants are also needed.
