Guadalupe completes basic training
Air Force Reserve Airman Miguel A. Vargas Guadalupe graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Vargas Guadalupe is the son of Javier and Evelyn Guadalupe of Weeping Willow Drive, Durham.
He is a 2010 graduate of Riverside High School.
Maj. Tier assigned to Germany
Army Maj. David J. Tier has arrived for duty as a strategic plans and policy officer assigned to the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies at Garmisch-Partenkirchen, German.
Tier has served in the military for 13 years.
He is the son of Bruce and Carol Luber of Scarlet Oak Court, Durham, N.C.
Tier graduated in 1995 from Roy C. Ketcham High School, Wappingers Falls, N.Y., and received a bachelor of science in 1999 from State University of New York at Buffalo, N.Y. He earned a master's degree in 2010 from Harvard University.
