Acevedo completes basic training
Army National Guard Pvt. Nery Acevedo has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.
Acevedo is a 2012 graduate of Chatham Central High School, Bear Creek.
Desousa completes basic training
Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Rachel L. Desousa graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.
Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Desousa is the daughter of Vanessa Corey of Great Ridge Parkway, Chapel Hill. She is a 2011 graduate of Stafford Senior High School, Falmouth, Va.
Henderson finishes basic training
Army Pvt. Jasper J. Henderson Jr. has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, core values and traditions. Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experiencing use of various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman.
Henderson is the son of Jasper Henderson and grandson of Lydia Turrentine, both of Guess Road, Rougemont.
He is a 2012 graduate of Orange High School, Hillsborough.
