For a bite of independent theater in Durham, visit a playhouse with a canine twist. Since 1987, the quirky Manbites Dog theater company has been producing new and challenging productions for the Durham community and beyond. With the intent of nurturing playwrights, directors, actors and artists, this theater company has been a haven for professional thespians of all stripes.
Housed in a 6,500-square-foot building on Foster Street in the Central Park district near Downtown Durham, Manbites Dog has produced more than 120 productions in 25 seasons. Many shows were regional or state premieres. Manbites Dog has an intimate black-box theater with flexible seating for multiple staging options. The setting enables visitors to feel physically involved in the production, as the actors are a mere few feet away.
