Atwater and Ellis lead Durham Schools Charette

Civil rights activist Ann Atwater and Ku Klux Klansman C. P. Ellis led two weeks of community meetings focusing on ways to facilitate school integration without violence. The effective collaboration of these unlikely co-chairs of the "Save Our Schools" effort caught national attention and was captured on television, in a documentary film and in the book, "The Best of Enemies: Race and Redemption in the New South."
