-- Housing for New Hope is putting on a holiday party for its clients Wednesday. Help them by preparing food, greeting clients as they arrive and cleaning up afterwards. Contact Ellen Jackson at (919) 489-6282.

-- Do you love working with teens? Do you have experience with cheerleading, dance or other sports? Spirit Esteem Athletics needs a program coordinator to assist with planning sports-related camps and clinics for youth (current focus cheer/dance), self-esteem building workshops and other activities for youth in the Triangle area. 

-- Do you love animals? Join Vets to Vets United who take animals to visit veterans in the Triangle who are in transitional housing facilities.

-- Help us out in the food pantry! Samaritan Relief Ministries serves Orange County residents in need. Help by greeting donors, shelving donations and packing grocery lists.

-- Glenn Elementary is beginning a new program called the Lions’ Literacy Lair to improve student reading skills. The last info and training session will be Jan. 11 at 3 pm. Spend 45 minutes a week and help a child achieve more!

-- 2013 brings a new session of Citizen School at Neal Middle School. Share your hobby or passion with a crew of middle schoolers afterschool one day a week. The program begins Jan. 22.

-- Or begin the new year helping tutor GED students at the Achievement Academy of Durham. Work with motivated students.
