Volunteer opportunities in the area
We celebrate nurses and teachers this month. Volunteer to help a nurse or teacher this month! Check out these opportunities on www.handsontriangle.org or contact Lynn Odom at 919-613-5105.
-- Want to volunteer, but you don’t know where to start? Attend a General Volunteer Orientation May 22 from 5-6 p.m. at the East Regional Public Library, 211 Lick Creek Lane. Representatives from three non-profits will be there to share about their organizations.
-- Pitch in and help with the Bimbe Festival at the CCB Plaza on May 18 and help us celebrate the African culture.
-- The Special Olympics North Carolina Summer Games is set for May 31-June 2. Help the staff and officials during competition.
-- Do you have a heart for seniors? Help out at Adult Day Health Care at the Durham Center for Senior Living.
-- Do you have a love for animals? Help take care of the education animals at the Piedmont Wildlife Center. Tasks are done in the mornings and take about 1 ½ hours.
-- Seniors need to exercise, but sometimes they have to do it sitting down. Can you lead an armchair exercise session at Camellia Gardens Assisted Living?
-- Help the American Red Cross as a greeter or canteen aide. Blood drives are held throughout the summer and just about every day of the week.
