Kids Klassic raises $90,000 for Duke Children’s Hospital
The 29th annual Jim Valvano Kids Klassic raised a grand total of $90,000 to benefit Duke Children’s Hospital & Health Center’s division of pediatric hematology-oncology.
The event was held July 11-12 at the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club. Sponsored by Crothall Healthcare, JVKK drew more than 300 participants and guests.
The funds support cancer research, education, and patient care for children like Kailey Eaton, whose family spoke about the patient experience at Duke Children’s during Friday evening’s dinner program.
The Kids Klassic is led by co-chairs Don Shea and Rufus Edmisten and a volunteer executive committee. Carol Bell received the Executive Committee Member of the Year Award during the Friday evening dinner program.
The two-day fund-raising event featured a shotgun start golf tournament and a spouse’s luncheon on “Garden Smart” with Rufus Edmisten and Campbell Nurseries of Raleigh. Guests enjoyed a buffet dinner, live dancing performance by Inis Cairde School of Irish Dance, and awards presentation, including the Volunteer of the Year Award to Nancy Cook. The event drew to a close with dancing and live music by The Fabulous Daddy-O’s.
