Christal Cerrone

Augustine Literacy Project

Volunteer for 13 years

It’s not unusual to call a wonderful volunteer “an angel,” but Christal is something even better: an Angel Maker. Not only is she a tutor with the Augustine Literacy Project, but she’s a major source of its income as well.

Since 2002, Christal has been working in her studio (Glass Designs Inc.) to create beautiful stained glass angels, which are sold at Christmas time by the Holy Family Episcopal Church. The sale of these angels generates more than $1,000 each year, which covers the cost of books and materials for 50 tutors.

Christal’s supervisor, Debbie McCarthy, points out that the hundreds of “one-of-a-kind angels that grace Christmas trees across the Triangle . . . represent the hundreds of Augustine tutors who are working diligently week in and week out to teach economically and academically disadvantaged children and teens.”

Thank you, Christal Cerrone, for using your skills to help so many people!
