Ambika Viswanathan

Volunteer for 4 years

It’s no secret that music can change lives, and Ambika Viswanathan is using it to change the lives of children. She has dedicated her after-school time and a large chunk of her summer vacations to teaching classical violin with KidZNotes, an organization that provides musical instruments and lessons in orchestral music for children in Durham’s poorest neighborhoods.

Ambika pulls students out of group practice sessions to give them the benefit of her own skill, helping with basic technique, positioning and music theory, and making sure they are engaged and focused. She started a KidZNotes Club at her high school, recruiting many other students to volunteer, and persuading her music department to hold a benefit concert to help pay for musical instruments.

Thank you, Ambika Viswanathan, for your dedication to enriching the lives of children through music!
