-- Do you have a special respect for our country's veterans? Help with the Bull City Stand Down Sept. 20. Contact Marsha Harris at volunteerbullcitysd@gmail.com to find out how you can help.  

-- It’s not too early to begin thinking of Christmas? Help with Angel Tree Registration as families sign up to receive gifts at the Salvation Army between Sept. 23 and Oct. 4.

-- Project Homeless Connect, Oct. 4 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., is a one-day, one-stop center to provide services for people who are homeless. All kinds of skills and abilities are needed.

-- Help clean up the neighborhood. Anywhere you see trash and any day you wish to clean-up is a Big Sweep clean-up site! Take part in the 2013 Durham Big Sweep! Trash bags and gloves are provided.

-- Do you have experience with horses? The N.C. Therapeutic Riding Center empowers children and adults with developmental challenges to create active, healthier and more fulfilling lives through equine-assisted activities and therapies. Volunteers are needed in all aspects of their work.

-- Could you step in and speak up for a neglected or abused child in court? Become a Guardian Ad Litem for Orange, Durham or Chatham County.

-- Do you like to plan events? How about a Candlelight Cemetery Tour? Be a part of the team that organizes and plans of the Annual Candlelight Cemetery Tour scheduled Oct. 25-26.
