Here are some opportunities to volunteer
“Gifts of time and love are surely the basic ingredients of a truly merry Christmas.”
-- Peg Bracken
Give the gift of time! For more info about the following opportunities, contact Dalia Place at (919) 613-4515 or email@example.com.
-- Would you like to encourage a local artist? Do you have time each week to give to someone in need? George, a disabled artist, needs help while he paints -- moving the easel, setting up his paints.
-- Help someone with transportation for medical treatment. The American Red Cross has a vehicle just for this purpose. Drivers are needed.
-- The Center for Child and Family Health believes that every child has the right to be loved, nurtured and to feel safe. Would you like to help meet this mission? Help in the office with admin tasks.
-- Do you like to work with seniors? Are you patient and kind? Adult Day Health at the Durham Center for Senior Life needs volunteers to help with seniors during the day to help them remain in their homes or with family members.
-- Are you interested in helping an adult learn to read? The Durham Literacy Center has orientations planned for Jan. 8, 9 and 10 from 6 p.m.-7 p.m. Plan to attend one if interested.
-- Do you have a heart for those who have experienced domestic violence? The Compass Center needs volunteers who can be a first contact for individuals and then refer to the appropriate service.
-- Are you interested in tutoring adult learners? Then the Orange County Literacy Council needs you!
-- Do you like to bake? Make some special seniors feel extra-special by baking desserts for those who receive Meals on Wheels in Orange County!
-- Become a Boomerang tutor for the new semester in 2014. Boomerang is an organization that helps provide short-term suspended middle and high school students with a supervised and positive environment during their time away from school.
-- Carolina Meadows is planning a Volunteer Orientation for Jan. 15 at 4 p.m. Find out how you can help!
